There is a screw at the bottom of the fan head, you need a screwdriver to unscrew it first, then rotate the fan grille clockwise to take it down. Rotate the knob at the center as its' arrow shows then you can remove the fan blades to wash. How to make sure the fan is locked so it doesn't fall forward? There is a button at the back of the telescoping rod, press it until you pull up the fan then let go, when the rod is lifted to 90° vertically, you will heard a pop out voice from the button, which means the fan is locked.
